Hi,

Rosie loves Jack by Mel Darbon is a fab ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was extremely lucky to win this amazing book at YALC. It was highly anticipated and it has definitely lived up to my expectations. As you can see i was in Brighton when i started it (completely coincidental). My reasoning for visiting is also why i haven’t blogged in 2 weeks as i am dealing with a bereavement. Thanks for your Understanding!

Now into the Review 👇🏻

The voice of Rose  has been written beautifully by Mel and shows the thought process of a teenager with down syndrome but also shows the positivity and hope that she has in herself and her abilities. Which is refreshing to read and true. The way in which Roses difficulties are shown throughout i feel are very realistic in terms of reading, spelling and situations.

Although Jack is the background character his personality bursts through just as much as Roses. I loved the art aspect and his way of expressing himself through the notes.

I enjoyed the flashbacks between the pair a lot as it kept the romance alive even when they’re not together and Rose is having difficult times. It kept the reader captivated and wanting to know if there will be the happy ‘ever after’ ending.

The fact the romance was the main topic but didn’t feel that way was great because in most books its the journey of falling in love. So to read a novel where they’re in love and just want to be together made my heart melt, but also as a reader i was concentrating more on the other topics within the book such as bullies , protective families , independence , sexual exploitation , homelessness  and kindness.

The Ending is powerful and emotional for the reader and all characters involved. This book got better and better throughout and everyone needs to go and read it because it has great insight to topics that aren’t covered enough in YA.

Thanks for Reading it means a lot. Please go follow ,like ,comment on my socials and here.

  1. Another one to add to my list and THANK YOU for referring to Rosie as a character “with down syndrome” – rather than using the dreaded “suffers with” terminology – which so many well-meaning people unwittingly use (ugh).
